What is EFT/Tapping

The character of a whole society is the cumulative result of countless small actions, day in and day out, of millions of people.
— Duane Elgin
How EFT Tapping Can Help.
What if, in learning to acknowledge how we feel and accept our feelings through anything we’re dealing with, we could become better individuals, learn to enjoy all parts of life and support our cumulative whole of society? From my own experience, this beautifully efficient tool called (E)motional (F)reedom (T)echnique, or Tapping, helps us do just that. We step in, break through, and give ourselves better control and clarity over how we choose to take in the life around us.

I believe EFT has a wide range of possibilities. When feeling any type of distress, tapping has been shown to offer some relief. (please see extended disclaimer below)

Learning to understand and process our emotions is the conscious shift happening these days.

I’ve applied EFT/Tapping into my own life practices. I wanted to let go of my fears, stresses, and the pressures I put on myself so I might be a more open and grounded version of me. My healing was for my own well-being, for my spouse & children, my family, my friends; my little ripple to the world!

Let me walk with you along your healing journey. Just as we're learning the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with clean food and daily movement, so too do we need the benefits of connecting to and be accepting of our inner self. All emotions, thoughts, and feelings accepted.

In recent years, EFT Tapping has gained the momentum of being a great tool for handling our emotional state around daily stresses. Just like yoga once was so new to our culture, I trust that EFT/ Tapping will also become a common mainstream tool that will help ease the lives of many. Today, let's begin with you.

How could EFT help?

EFT Tapping is a form of acupressure, where you physically (and lightly) tap on certain points along the body (referred to as energy meridians/or acupressure points). Doing so while focusing on a specific emotional issue and/or physical sensation, can help reduce or even alleviate the stress response that one is feeling.  EFT works on the stress response associated with a memory or thought.

Discovered by Gary Craig through the original works of Gary Callahan, Gary Craig found that by tapping on these acupressure points, distress over fears, worry, or physical discomforts were significantly reduced if not fully eliminated from the individual's experience. Current studies, as documented in Dr. Peta Stapleton's book "The Science behind Tapping" and Dr. Dawson Church's "The EFT Manual" have documented many evidence based scenarios that show EFT to be useful over a variety of areas.

The acupressure points help tell our little brain buddy, the amygdala (where processing emotions takes place), that "all is well" and there is no danger to fight, flee, or freeze for. In today's world that "danger" is starting the day with 200+ emails in our inboxes, or sitting in traffic when late for school. It could even be hearing a voice today that might trigger some distress you felt in the 7th grade. Or like me, it's when dinner is running late and three little voices all seem to be yelling and demanding your attention at that very same moment just as the phone rings telling you the dog got out again!

Stop. Breathe. Tap.

How to start EFT Tapping?
1. Think of a topic you'd like to "tap on". (What is bothering you?)

2. Rate the level of intensity on the issue using a scale from 1-10. (10 feeling very upset/sad/angry and 1 having no intensity towards the situation.) Notice where you feel that intensity in your body.

3. With your dominant hand, begin by gently tapping your fingertips on the outside of your opposite hand (the fleshy part below your pinky finger) stating your "setup statement" 3x. (ex: Even though I am upset after watching today's news headline, I accept myself and how I feel.)

4. Continue tapping through each of the points using your dominant hand/fingertips. Begin at the inner eyebrow and continue down towards the under arm. End by tapping the top of the head (see my image of tapping points).  Tap about 6-7 times on each point while stating aloud your "reminder phrase" (ex: I am upset about this news headlines, I feel this upset in my stomach)

5. This completes one round of EFT/Tapping. Take a deep breath and rate again the intensity level to check on your progress. (Generally you'll notice your original number go down. If the intensity has gone up, focus on what new thought/feeling has occurred and continue tapping through the points until you feel more relaxed.

EFT Tapping becomes a useful tool you can use wherever you go, and I encourage you to try it on anything that might be triggering you. To learn more, click the link below for a free EFT mini-manual from my mentors via EFT Universe.
